VISUAL DEVELOPMENT

Aaron Hong's art work is graphic, bold with strong light and shadow. Our goal was to make sure that we captured his 2D aesthetic in a fully animated form that elevated its impact.

PIPELINE DEVELOPMENT

The project began as a 2D illustrated film with several key shots being done in 3D. Dynamic lighting, changing seasons and elaborate camera moves were integral to the story so we chose to use the Unreal Game Engine and go full 3D.

ANIMATION TOOLS

The Unreal Game Engine is designed to simulate the behavior of real light and natural materials. Since our goal was to create an immersive and evolving illustrated world we had to build several artist friendly shaders and materials.

PRODUCTION + POST

By creating building the project in the Unreal Game Engine we were able to impliment a responsive pipeline that allowed us to work intimately with the films director and art director in real time to refine the visual language of the film.

ADDITIONAL OUTPUTS

We designed the films production pipeline and assets to serve multiple distribution opportunities including a childrens picture book, VR experience or Full Dome.
