A brief demonstration of the plugin PSD to 3D. PSD to 3D is a plugin that converts 2D drawings into 3D content. Artists with little to no 3D experience can now bypass the modeling phase, turning Photoshop sketches into moldable scenes and characters, ready for animation.
Presently the PSDto3D plugin is for Photoshop and Maya on PC only.
Don't worry this is not 10 minutes to get a file into Maya, it is actually really fast. Most of the time is spent trying to explain functionality and showing you what's happening behind the scenes with the materials, textures, PNG's and the Photoshop file.
IN DEPTH: CREATING MESHES IN PHOTOSHOP FOR COMPLEX FORMS
We will be taking a look at a few different ways to create custom 3D Meshes for complex forms using the Pen tool in Photoshop. I will show you some of my techniques for keeping nice edge flow and maintaining quads.
One last boring one! I demonstrate a couple of situations and techniques where redrawing the edge loops and tweaking the mesh is needed. After we are happy with the mesh I show you how to quickly re-align the UVs with two clicks, to avoid texture stretching.
IN-DEPTH: SCULPTING WITH SOFT-SELECTION + BASIC LIGHTING
FINALLY we start taking this to the next level and zoom past After Effects. I show you how to use 3 simple techniques to sculpt and form your character, or environment, in Maya and modify the materials for some nice 3D lighting.
