PSD TO 3D OVERVIEW

Get a sense of what the plugin can help you do

A brief demonstration of the plugin PSD to 3D. PSD to 3D is a plugin that converts 2D drawings into 3D content. Artists with little to no 3D experience can now bypass the modeling phase, turning Photoshop sketches into moldable scenes and characters, ready for animation.

Presently the PSDto3D plugin is for Photoshop and Maya on PC only.

PSD TO 3D PRO: QUICKSTART + OVERVIEW

Steps to getting PSD to 3D Pro up and ready

We get into using Photoshop's pen tool to draw a mesh for use in Maya. I also encounter a texture bug with the Alpha that I demonstrate how to quick in one easy step.

COMPLEX ALPHAS + MESSY PATHS

Quick Tip about dealing with complex alphas and messy paths

A quick tip for managing complex shapes or faded alphas like clouds, frizzy hair, bushes and grass. This tip is for both Pro and Lite users.

If you are having problems with the Mesh generation it may because of really complex Alpha channels that can lead to dense curve paths that take way longer to process.

We will be taking a look at a few different ways to create custom 3D Meshes for complex forms using the Pen tool in Photoshop. I will show you some of my techniques for keeping nice edge flow and maintaining quads.

IN-DEPTH: IMPORTING INTO MAYA FIXING PSD FOR MESH CLIPPING

This video is kinda boring. We will look at importing the PSD file, looking for mesh mistakes and I'll show you how to correct them quickly.

IN-DEPTH: FIXING BAD GEOMETRY + UV STRETCHING

One last boring one! I demonstrate a couple of situations and techniques where redrawing the edge loops and tweaking the mesh is needed. After we are happy with the mesh I show you how to quickly re-align the UVs with two clicks, to avoid texture stretching.

IN-DEPTH: SEPARATING LAYER OBJECTS+ POSITIONING IN 3D

We finally get to do some Modeling and building things! In this video we are going to separate our layer objects into usable parts and start positioning pieces in 3D.

IN-DEPTH: SCULPTING WITH SOFT-SELECTION + BASIC LIGHTING

FINALLY we start taking this to the next level and zoom past After Effects. I show you how to use 3 simple techniques to sculpt and form your character, or environment, in Maya and modify the materials for some nice 3D lighting.
