PLAYLIST: SCENE TRACK

WHAT IS SCENE TRACK FOR UNITY?

This video explores the origins of the Scene Track concept and will give you an overview of why we made it and how we use it here at e.d. films.

Scene Track: Game Media Exporter is an open source animation tool that delivers four kinds of data from Unity. By recording real-time game play, artists can now get video, image, sound and fbx files. Play. Record. Export. It's that easy. You don't need to know code. Jump in and try. It'll blow your mind!

INSTALLATION

Follow these steps to get Scene Track running on your system

This video will go through the process of installing Scene Track on your computer.

ALTERNATIVE INSTALLATION

This video will go through the process of installing Scene Track on your computer.

PREFERENCES

This video goes through the main functions and settings for Scene Track in Unity.

PRO TIP: Set your Scene Scale to 100 in the Scene Track Animation settings if you plan on using your recordings in Unity.

RECORD + EXPORT

This video gets right into it with the basics of using Scene Track to record game-play animation and exporting it to an FBX file.

RECORDING FOR UNITY TIMELINE

This video demonstrates how to import your recorded FBX files animation and get it onto a character without code using Unity's timeline.

RECORDING MULTIPLE TIMELINE ASSETS + EXPORTING

This video shows you how you can record multiple animations from a single playable object to dynamically populate a scene to create a dog-fight.

MIXING CHARACTERS + VEHICLES

This video shows you how you can play game characters against prerecorded vehicle animations and mix them all together to create a responsive scene that feels better than game AI without using any plugins or code at all.

RECORDING + EXPORTING VIDEO

This video will show you the basics behind recording a live video feed from a Unity camera during game-play. This is a very helpful aid for us when doing post production sound captured from game play.

RECORDING + EXPORTING MIDI

This video demonstrates the basics of how you can use Scene Track to generate a MIDI file derived from physics events during game play.

UI + PREFERENCES

This video goes through the main functions and settings for Scene Track in Unity as well as goes through the UI of the plugin.

SETTING UP MAYA HIK RIG FOR UNITY

This video briefly reviews the process of creating a simple HIK Rig in Maya from a pre-existing character geometry. It isn't in depth so, if you want to learn more about HIK rigs in Maya check out the links below.

IMPORTING MAYA HIK RIG INTO UNITY

This video demonstrates how to import a Maya HIK Rigged character into Unity. The process is fairly universal for most, properly named, humanoid rigs.

RECORDING PLAYABLE ASSETS FOR CUSTOM ANIMATION

This video is a bit of a review on recording character animation from a Unity Standard Asset, but this time we will be re-targeting the animation to our imported Maya rig using Unity's timeline

COMBINE MULTIPLE ANIMATIONS USING UNITY TIMELINE

This video shows you how to add more animation to your characters scene by mixing free downloadable assets with your recording in Unity's timeline. Crazy easy and fun.

USING SCENE TRACK WITH MAYA

In this video we finally get into bringing everything we have recorded back into Maya! We will go over importing the FBX file, cleaning it up, creating an HIK rig for Re-Targeting and baking the animation onto our original Maya HIK Rig.

CREATING A LOOK-AT CONTROLLER

In this video we build on what we learned in the last lesson to add a simple, but imperative Look-At controller to drive our characters gaze. This won't just move the head around, it will affect the whole spine making for a more life-like performance.

EXPORT, RE-EXPORT + EXPERIMENT

In this video I quickly show you how to overwrite existing FBX animation in Maya for re-takes and touch on some, under-cooked but, exciting ways you could control your characters performance for future productions. It is all very exciting.
