Snow 001

We are from Canada and we know what real falling snow looks like. It can be hard to make and the plugins are expensive. Save yourself $500 and sprinkle these into your next project. Shovels not included.

Inspiration

This dramatic sequence from "Let There Be Light" involved an epic tracking shot with a white out snow storm that brought Particular in After Effects and our super computers to their knees. Removing the storm was not an option, so we went old school and rendered out several layers of snow and placed them into the scene. It worked beautifully and we continue to use them to this day. Now you can too!

Quick Tip

The best way to use this snow in a tracking shot, moving sideways through a scene, is to parent your camera and the layered snow to a null object that you animate along the X axis. Now your camera can have wiggle and dolly in and out of the scene without the snow feeling like a cheap overlay.
