Industrial Mega Pack 001

Creating these stamp-like brushes allowed us to ramp up production on Brown Bear: What Are You Toxin About?, an educational film we made for Mindfuel. Use them to draw detailed industrial buildings without the backbreaking labor.

Inspiration

Artist Louis Meilleur Roy says this piece "Nice View" is a good example of an early production design illustration for research on an animated film. The project which is essentially a classic adventure story for a young audience taking place on a giant wooden staircase needed the design of an old village above the clouds. Since the houses were built by the villagers themselves over a certain period of time, I relied heavily on vernacular architecture to create the shapes of the structures. I always find myself struggling with creating organic silhouettes which is why using these references, mainly the Soutiaguine house, helps me to break out of my linear aesthetic. Despite this piece being finished, I will certainly continue improving the basic outline of the village to further improve its vernacular style. As for the tools, I reused the now famous texture brush, the industrial pack and, of course, the cloud brushes.

Quick Tip

Our "Stamp" brushes use the TILT feature of tablet pens to rotate the brush tip. This allows you to place the brush mark very deliberately on the canvas. The TILT feature is not supported in all pen tablet models, so if the stamps don't rotate when you tilt your pen try setting the brush angle to another "Control" or modify it manually in the "Brush Tip Shape" section of the brush properties panel.
