VISUAL DEVELOPMENT

Our goal was to represent the arctic through an artistically timeless lense that could inspire the attendees imagination while still accurately reflecting the reality of nature.

PIPELINE DEVELOPMENT

Being our first painterly, Full Dome project we had to develop a number of custom tools and processes to translate the brush strokes of the concept art and animation to the final hybrid 3D assets.

ANIMATION TOOLS

There was a lot riding on the animated landscapes feeling immersive, dynamcic and hand painted in the exhibit space. Not only would this require the development of several custom, artist friendly tools, shaders and materials it also meant we had to find ways to view the animation in situ without having access to the site.

PRODUCTION + POST

Due to the living nature of the stylized environments we had to combine, merge and bend both 2D and 3D techniques to achieve a hand painted look that could incorporate everything from huge camera moves to the changing of weather and seasons.

ADDITIONAL OUTPUTS

With the diverse demands of the project, we designed most of the assets to be modular so that they could be used in multiple formats including traditional cinema and VR.
